A conversation can change a life

In late 2019 Stockland CARE Foundation proudly announced our new partnership with R U OK? and ReachOut Australia who join Redkite as national strategic partners.

Both these fantastic organisations help break down the stigma attached to mental health, providing skills, resources and networks to meaningfully connect people through life’s ups and downs .

Mental health has the potential to affect anyone, no matter what stage of life. If someone you know – a family member, mate, neighbour or fellow resident – is doing it tough, chances are they won’t always tell you.

Sometimes it is up to us to trust our gut instincts and ask someone who may be struggling with life “are you ok?.” By asking and listening, we can help our friends, neighbours and loved ones feel more supported and connected. You don’t need to be an expert to reach out – just a good friend and a great listener.

If you’re nervous about starting a conversation, try using these four steps:
1. Ask R U OK?
2. Listen
3. Encourage action
4. Check in

Visit the R U OK Website, https://www.ruok.org.au/, for more guidance on starting a conversation. Plus there is lots of great information and resources on mental health.
